Volunteers needed to keep golf on course
More than 150 volunteers will get the chance to rub shoulders with some of Europe’s best women golfers when the S4C Wales Championship of Europe comes to Conwy (Caernarvonshire) Golf Club in August.
Event organisers are looking for people who are willing to give their time to be volunteer marshals between 12th and 15th August when top names in European women’s golf battle it out for a share of the £300,000 prize fund.
With support from Conwy County Borough Council, the championship is part of the Ryder Cup Wales Summer of Golf programme, a series of events played throughout Wales, promoting Wales as a golfing destination in the lead up to The 2010 Ryder Cup at The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport.
Rob Holt, Chief Executive of Ryder Cup Wales, said: “As with any sport, the help from our volunteers is crucial in ensuring the event runs like clockwork. Their work on and off the course and behind the scenes is vital for the smooth running of the tournament and we are hugely grateful to all who give up their free time to help with the event.
“Volunteers will be provided with a commemorative branded windcheater and a unique opportunity to be a part of this prestigious tournament in what will be a memorable year for Welsh golf.”
Volunteers of all ages, from 18 years upwards, are able to register for the tournament and are needed to work behind the scenes, and inside the ropes, assisting with scoring, ball-spotting and crowd marshalling.
Aled Jones, Secretary of Conwy Golf Club, commented, “We are delighted to be hosting this event which attracts major names from the golfing world to North Wales and which will help raise the profile of Conwy. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with an interest in golf to become part of an international tournament.”
