Welcome to Conwy Golf Club
… The must play golf course on the North Wales coast playable all year round. Over the past six years Conwy has hosted the prestigious European Amateur Team Championship in 2009, the S4C Wales Ladies Championship of Europe in 2010 and hosted its third European Senior tour event in August 2012.
Conwy has had links with Hoylake since 1875 when members of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club established a 12 hole course on Conwy’s Morfa. It became an 18 hole course in 1895 and remains the only Open local final qualifying course in Wales. So if you are visiting Hoylake for the Open Championship this June why not extend your visit with a round at Conwy.
The challenge, presentation and condition of the course all came in for lavish praise from players, officials and spectators, while European Tour representatives commended club staff for their work after a summer of disappointing weather. In his victory speech, Barry Lane complimented the club on the excellent course presentation.
Second-placed Philip Golding, who turned 50 earlier in 2012 and was only playing in his fourth senior event, led after the first round with a course record-equaling 64, including a European Senior Tour record of eight consecutive birdies from the ninth hole. “It is a course where you have to think off the tee,” he said. “You can’t hit a driver everywhere. It’s a great course. Every hole makes you think and the greens were in fantastic condition today.”
Running at the Stimpmeter speed requested by the Tour of between 10.5 and 11.0 each day, the putting surfaces provided the perfect test for the skills of the players. Echoing the thoughts of many of his fellow players, Anders Forsbrand said: “It’s a great golf course. You have to focus on every single shot.”
However, even these comments were surpassed by those of Sky Sports golf pundit and renowned putting and short-game expert Tony Johnstone, who said: “Those were the finest greens I’ve ever putted on.” Johnstone was recently appointed putting and short-game coach to former world number one Westwood and is acknowledged as one of the finest putters of his generation, having won six times on the main European Tour. He finished in seventh position at Conwy.
Set in a spectacular location along the North Wales coast, our links provide a great test of golf all year round, as one would expect of an Open Qualifying course and whilst we strive to maintain these high standards, our objective is also to ensure that our members, visitors and societies enjoy their golf here. This truly is golf as it should be.
And once you have completed your round, come and enjoy the magnificent views of the course from our modern clubhouse, with a drink or two and a bite to eat from our wide-ranging bar & restaurant menu.
We look forward to welcoming you all year round.
